Following last week’s roundtable discussion special, GOLF Channel today announced the expansion of NBC Sports Group’s Race and Sports in America franchise. Earlier today, GOLF Channel’s Morning Drive kicked off Race and Sports in America: Moving Golf Forward, welcoming philanthropist and LPGA/PGA professional instructor Renee Powell, to honor her more than 50 years of dedication to making golf a more welcoming and diverse sport.
Awhile back we conducted a Five Questions interview with Dr. Michael Cooper, who serves on the GOLF 20/20 Diversity Task Force. Dr. Cooper has worked in the golf industry for more than 35 years, including Director of Southeast Regional Affairs with The First Tee, and Director of Diversity for the World Golf Foundation.
The PGA of America Board of Directors has voted to rename the Horton Smith Award effective immediately. It will be replaced with the new PGA Professional Development Award, honoring a PGA Member for outstanding contributions to professional education.
We as an organization have spent the last several days taking in the news and unfolding events happening around the country. It is truly disturbing and heartbreaking. Although disheartened, we are proud to work for an organization that is actively discussing how we can play a role in changing social injustices and better support our youth.
