"Bill Clinton thinks a little more golf in this country could go a long way – from easing the partisan gridlock in Washington to even helping slash the deficit.

In an interview with reporters on Thursday, the former president said Americans have made important strides in combating racism and sexism and accepting homosexuals, but that they still have a long ways to go in being more tolerance of people who have different opinions.

'We don’t want to be around people we disagree with,” Clinton said, according to USA Today. “Just think about it. It’s a bad thing, I think, for our country, that we don’t like to be around people who disagree with us.'

He added, 'Golf brings people together. Once you actually see somebody as a human being, it becomes impossible to disregard what they have to say, and you might learn something. I think it’s really important.'"
