Ben Crenshaw and Luke Wilson are spearheading the campaign to preserve a civil rights landmark golf course in Austin, Texas. Lions Municipal Golf Course, locally known as "Muny" has been operating since 1924. It is recognized, unofficially, as the first desegregated public golf course in a southern state. The course was recently named to the National Register of Historic Places in 2016.
Save Muny is a local organization that has been raising awareness and capital to help protect the course from potential development. With the assistance of Crenshaw, Wilson and other local legends like Willie Nelson, Save Muny has become a rallying point of locals who love golf and their community.
Garden & Gun magazine ran an inspiring feature story on the initiative.
